New Taipei, May 13 (CNA) A Sanchung Bus driver, surnamed Kuo, was driving in Luzhou District this morning when a passenger, allegedly upset after being prevented from alighting without pressing the bell, attacked the driver with a window breaker. The police were notified, arrested the suspect on the spot, and sent him for prosecution. Sanchung Bus also condemned the violence and fully supported the driver in pressing charges.

The Luzhou Precinct of the New Taipei City Police Department stated in a message that at around 7 AM today, a Sanchung Bus Route 806 was passing through the intersection of Zhongshan 2nd Road and Jiugong Street in Luzhou District, New Taipei City, when a dispute allegedly occurred between the bus driver and a passenger. Upon arrival, officers found that a 75-year-old passenger, surnamed Huang, for some reason attacked the 59-year-old driver, surnamed Kuo, with a window breaker, causing abrasions to the driver's head and left hand, and contusions to the chest.

Preliminary understanding indicates that Mr. Huang, allegedly upset after being prevented from alighting without pressing the bell, suddenly lost control when the vehicle stopped at a red light. He first attacked the driver near the driver's seat, and then attacked again with a window breaker. The police were notified, arrived at the scene, arrested Mr. Huang as an active offender, and after questioning, transferred him for prosecution on charges of assault. They also notified 119 emergency personnel to provide first aid to the driver.

Sanchung Bus stated that it strongly condemns any violent attacks on drivers and acts that endanger public transport safety, calling on the public to express their demands rationally and jointly maintain a safe riding environment. The company immediately provided care to the driver and issued a comfort红包 (red envelope), and will accompany the driver through legal proceedings to protect the safety and rights of public transport employees.
