(Central News Agency reporter Lu Kang-chun, Hsinchu City 13th) Wu Chung-yun, an alumna of Chung Hua University who was once nominated for the Presidential Education Award and is completely blind due to brain cancer, developed pulmonary fibrosis last year due to pneumonia. Her condition has recently deteriorated, and her parents today appealed to the public, hoping to find kind individuals willing to donate lungs to give her a chance at life.

Wu Chung-yun's mother stated in a phone interview with Central News Agency today that 26-year-old Wu Chung-yun graduated from graduate school in 2023 (112 years in ROC calendar) and had planned to pursue a doctoral degree. However, in late June 2024 (113 years in ROC calendar), she suddenly felt unwell and was diagnosed with pneumonia after being rushed to the hospital.

Wu Chung-yun's mother conveyed through text that Wu Chung-yun's health has been deteriorating, requiring 24-hour oxygen supply. In July 2025 (114 years in ROC calendar), her condition progressed to pulmonary fibrosis, and doctors advised her to undergo organ transplantation as soon as possible.

Wu Chung-yun's mother said that her daughter passed the NHI (National Health Insurance) review last month and registered in the organ donation and transplantation system for waiting. However, her condition worsened recently, requiring intubation. Doctors assessed the situation as not optimistic and that a lung transplant was urgently needed to save her life. She hopes to find benevolent individuals willing to donate lungs to allow Wu Chung-yun's life to continue.

Li Yen-hui, former chairperson of Chung Hua University and Deputy Minister of the Overseas Community Affairs Council, stated through text that when Wu Chung-yun was 7 years old, brain cancer surgery left her with only 0.01 vision in both eyes. At 15, a cerebral hemorrhage caused hemiplegia and severe damage to her cardiopulmonary function. Her mother accompanied her throughout her schooling, even living with her in the dormitory during her time at Chung Hua University. Her story touched many people and she was even recognized by the school with the "Diligence, Simplicity, Honesty, Integrity" award. (Editor: Lin Shu-hui) 1150513
