(Taitung, May 13, Central News Agency Reporter Lu Tai-cheng) - An Australian man recently entered the mountainous area of Donghe Township, Taitung County, and became trapped in a cliff cave. He is currently reported to be conscious. The Taitung Fire Department's search and rescue team launched a rescue operation yesterday and advanced to about 200 meters from the trapped location today. They will do their best to rescue the man down the mountain tomorrow.

The Taitung County Fire Department and volunteer firefighters dispatched two teams today to rescue from two different locations. The Taitung County Fire Department announced in the evening that they successfully delivered food to the trapped man using technological equipment this morning. The man is currently conscious and his vital signs are stable.

As of 4 PM, the search and rescue team had reached about 200 meters above the trapped person, but due to the steep terrain, ropes must be set up to traverse. Considering the dimming light, impending rain, and treacherous terrain, the rescuers temporarily retreated to their camp to rest. They plan to set off again immediately early tomorrow morning to fully rescue the trapped man down the mountain.

Matthew, an Australian man around 50 years old, went missing five days ago, possibly after an argument with his wife. His relatives searched everywhere for him. Because he had often hiked in the Xinxiaoma section of the back mountains of the tribe and enjoyed surfing and was physically fit, they first started searching in the mountainous area. They indeed found his motorcycle parked at the foot of the mountain and then requested assistance from the fire department.

Upon receiving the report, the Taitung County Fire Department set up a forward command post and went up the mountain for search and rescue. Yesterday morning, a rescue team went up the mountain to search, and with the help of a drone, clearly photographed the foreign man in a cliff cave, able to move and conscious. However, the cave is located in a V-shaped cliff, where people can go down but cannot come up. (Edited by: Huang Ming-hsi) 1150513
