Ahead of Trump-Xi Meeting, Bipartisan US Senators Urge Rubio to Maintain Pro-Taiwan Stance

Central News Agency (CNA) Washington, May 13 (Comprehensive Foreign Report) - As US President Donald Trump arrived in China on the 13th, bipartisan US federal senators sent a letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, expressing their support for the "Taiwan Relations Act" and warning against "unilaterally adjusting this policy" or issuing "any new policy declarations regarding Taiwan."

US media outlet Semafor exclusively reported that the letter was co-drafted by Democratic Senator Michael Bennet of Colorado and Republican Senator John Curtis of Utah, and was first disclosed by Semafor.

The letter was signed by a total of 12 senators, reminding Rubio that during his time in Congress, he "consistently demonstrated firm support" for US-Taiwan relations.

Furthermore, these senators emphasized in the letter that they are "ready to cooperate with your (Rubio's) administration" to "further strengthen the partnership" with Taiwan.

Signatories of the letter include Republican Senators Thom Tillis and Mitch McConnell, as well as Democratic Senators Andy Kim, Tim Kaine, Jeff Merkley, Chris Coons, Chris Van Hollen, Tammy Duckworth, Elissa Slotkin, and Brian Schatz.
