TEHRAN (CNA) -- Iran's judiciary announced today the execution of a man convicted of selling information to Israeli intelligence agencies. Since the outbreak of the US-Iran conflict in February, the number of executions by Iranian authorities has significantly increased, especially in cases involving espionage or national security charges.

According to Agence France-Presse and Reuters, Iran's judiciary media outlet "Mizan" stated: "The spy Ehsan Afrashteh has been executed. He was trained by Mossad in Nepal and sold sensitive information to Israel."

HRANA, a US-based human rights activist news agency, reported that 32-year-old Afrashteh was arrested in 2024 and sentenced to death in 2025 based on fabricated confessions.

According to human rights organizations, Iran is the second-largest executor of the death penalty globally, after China. On May 11, Iran executed an aerospace engineering student who was also convicted of spying for Israel and the United States. (Compiled by Chang Ming-hsuan) 1150513
