(Central News Agency, Taipei, 12th) Ahead of the Trump-Xi summit, China's official media, Xinhua News Agency, published an article stating that head-of-state diplomacy is the "stabilizing force" for US-China relations, providing an important strategic guarantee for the improvement and development of relations; the article also reiterated that for the two countries, "cooperation benefits both, conflict harms both," and that a stable US-China relationship is especially needed in the current international situation.
US President Trump is expected to arrive in Beijing on the 13th for a three-day state visit to China, during which he will hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping. On the eve of the Trump-Xi summit, Xinhua News Agency published a special article on the 11th titled "Leading the Great Ship of China-US Relations Through Winds and Waves, Moving Forward Steadily," stating that Xi Jinping will have in-depth exchanges of views with Trump on major issues concerning China-US relations and world peace and development.
The article mentioned that this is the first face-to-face meeting between the heads of state of China and the United States since Busan in October last year, and also the first visit by a US president to China in nine years. "Looking back at the process of China-US relations experiencing ups and downs to achieve overall stability, head-of-state diplomacy has always been the 'stabilizing force' for China-US relations, playing an irreplaceable strategic leading role and providing an important strategic guarantee for the improvement and development of China-US relations."
The article stated that after the Busan meeting, China-US relations have generally stabilized and improved, which has been widely welcomed by both countries and the international community. "As the largest developing country and the largest developed country, it is common sense, repeatedly verified by practice, that 'cooperation benefits both, conflict harms both' for China and the United States. In the current international situation, which is intertwined with changes and chaos, a stable China-US relationship is especially needed to inject valuable stability into the world."
The article stated that with the US-China presidential summit approaching, "people expect that under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, both sides can maintain the hard-won stable situation, explore the construction of a strategic, constructive, and stable China-US relationship, and make 2026 a landmark year for China-US relations to move towards healthy, stable, and sustainable development."
Regarding Trump's visit to China, Hong Kong's Ming Pao published an article today analyzing that, according to China's tone, the presidential summit is about equal footing, "exchanging in-depth views on major issues concerning US-China relations and world peace and development," maintaining a struggle without breaking.
According to Sing Tao Daily, citing Beijing scholars' analysis, this Trump-Xi summit focuses on setting the tone for relations, stabilizing expectations, and controlling risks. (Editors: Chou Hui-ying / Lu Chia-jung) 1150512
