(Central News Agency reporter Tseng Yi-ning, Taipei, 12th) The Ministry of Health and Welfare's Centers for Disease Control (CDC) today announced the results of this year's public-funded trivalent flu vaccine procurement, with a total of 7.05 million doses procured, including 6.85 million standard doses and 208,000 enhanced doses. Director-General Lo Yi-chun stated that Taiwan is the first in Asia to announce the inclusion of enhanced vaccines in its public program.

Lo Yi-chun, Director-General of the Ministry of Health and Welfare's CDC, told the media today that Taiwan is the first country in Asia to announce the inclusion of enhanced vaccines in its public immunization program.

CDC spokesperson Tseng Shu-hui stated in today's regular epidemic weekly report that this year's public-funded trivalent flu vaccine procurement was completed on May 7th. Considering the growth of the elderly population and factors such as changes in the epidemic or increased public willingness to vaccinate, a total of 7,050,150 doses were procured, including 6,849,360 doses of standard flu vaccine and 200,790 doses of immunologically enhanced flu vaccine, an increase of approximately 35,000 doses compared to last year's final procurement volume.

The confirmed procurement volume for standard flu vaccines is 6,649,360 doses, the CDC explained, including 6,448,960 doses needed for vaccination program recipients and 200,400 doses commissioned by central/local governments. The winning bidders are Kuokuang Biotechnology Inc. with 3,158,450 doses (47.5%), GlaxoSmithKline Pharmaceutical Ltd. Taiwan Branch (authorized to bid and perform by Zuellig Pharma Co., Ltd.) with 1,745,460 doses (26.3%).

Other winning bidders include Sanofi Co., Ltd. with 750,540 doses (11.3%), Taiwan Biotech Co., Ltd. with 606,900 doses (9.1%), and Medigen Vaccine Biologics Corporation with 388,010 doses (5.8%). The CDC stated that an additional 200,000 doses will be ordered if needed, with 40,000 doses from each manufacturer.

The confirmed procurement volume for immunologically enhanced flu vaccines is 170,790 doses, the CDC explained, with winning bidders being Taiwan Biotech Co., Ltd. with 102,470 doses (60%) and Sanofi Co., Ltd. with 68,320 doses (40%). An additional 30,000 doses will be ordered if needed, with 15,000 doses from each manufacturer.

The CDC explained that this procurement case maintained the same approach as 2025, adopting the most advantageous tender and multiple award methods. The evaluation results were announced today. According to the contract, standard vaccines will be delivered in three batches from late September to mid-October, while immunologically enhanced vaccines will be delivered in one batch in late September.

The CDC previously indicated that recipients for enhanced flu vaccines are expected to prioritize seniors aged 65 and over in long-term care and nursing facilities. (Editor: Lee Henry Shan) 1150512
