(Central News Agency reporter Yang Shu-min, Taipei 12th) Following the announcement that Taipei City's citizen training vouchers, applicable to community university courses, will be available for lottery to those aged 18 and above, with 10,000 spots available. The Department of Education today further announced that, starting from 2027 (Year 116), the city government will increase subsidies for each community university to NT$3 million, and cover any shortfall from reduced central government subsidies.

The Taipei City Department of Education announced that Mayor Chiang Wan-an stated today at the 'Mayor's Meeting with Community Universities' that, starting from 2027, the annual subsidy for each community university will be increased to NT$3 million, and the shortfall from reduced central government subsidies will be covered to ensure stable operations.

Chen Chin-yi, section chief of the Department of Education's Lifelong Education Division, told Central News Agency reporters that community universities have two sources of subsidies. One is from the central government, which before 2025 (Year 114) subsidized 70% of the funds applied for by Taipei's community universities annually. In 2026 (Year 115), the subsidy ratio for Taipei's community universities was reduced to 50% to 55%, with a total shortfall of NT$2.89 million, which the Taipei City Government will cover.

She said the other source is subsidies from the Taipei City Government, including operational subsidies, special project courses, and teaching point subsidies. In 2024 (Year 113), each institution received a total of NT$2.3 million, NT$2.5 million in 2025, and NT$2.6 million in 2026, increasing year by year, and will increase to NT$3 million starting in 2027.

There are community universities in all 12 administrative districts of Taipei City, totaling 12 institutions and 17 teaching points. To encourage citizens' lifelong learning, the Department of Education announced on the 11th that citizen training vouchers, effective from 2026, will expand eligibility from those aged 55 and above to citizens aged 18 and above, and the number of subsidized recipients will increase from 2,400 to 10,000.
