(Central News Agency reporter Zhao Liyan, Taichung, 12th) With the increase in international flights at Taichung International Airport, Chen Mei-hsiu, Director of the Taichung City Government Tourism and Travel Bureau, announced today that starting June 1st, the Taichung Airport Passenger Service Center will coordinate with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Tourism Administration's Taichung Airport Service Counter to extend service hours until 9 PM.
The significant increase in international routes at Taichung International Airport led to a recent interpellation by Taichung City Councilor Yang Dian-zhong of the Democratic Progressive Party in the city council. He pointed out that with 26 international flights currently, the service hours of the airport's passenger service center (9 AM to 6 PM) were out of sync with flight schedules, leaving passengers arriving in the evening without consultation services.
During today's meeting of the Taichung City Council's Transportation and Land Administration Committee, Chen Mei-hsiu announced that after discussions between the Taichung City Government and the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Tourism Administration, Taichung International Airport will follow the example of Songshan and Kaohsiung Airports, extending the travel service center's hours until 9 PM starting June 1st. The Tourism Administration and the Tourism and Travel Bureau will cooperate on staff allocation.
Regarding another international flight arriving from Macau at 9:10 PM, Chen Mei-hsiu stated that if passengers have questions, they will be guided to the information service counter at the Taichung Airport terminal, where staff will assist them.
The Tourism and Travel Bureau further explained that Taichung International Airport currently has three travel (tourism) service centers: the Ministry of Transportation and Communications Tourism Administration's Taichung Airport Service Counter, the Taichung City Tourism and Travel Bureau's tourism service center, and the Civil Aeronautics Administration Taichung Airport's passenger information service counter, which operates from 5:30 AM until the last domestic flight arrives in the evening.
