(Central News Agency reporter Huang Liyun, Taipei, 12th) Six Shopee self-pickup stores have recently been targeted by criminals who used grinders to break into payment machines and steal money, with a total loss of approximately NT$1 million. The Criminal Investigation Bureau, after receiving reports, tracked down and arrested two men in their 40s, surnamed Lin and Yang, who had previous records of drug offenses and theft, and sent them for prosecution.

Jiang Jiasheng, Deputy Captain of the Fourth Investigation Brigade of the National Police Agency's Criminal Investigation Bureau, held a press conference this afternoon, stating that they had received reports from Shopee operators that six Shopee self-pickup stores in New Taipei City, Taoyuan City, and Hsinchu County were continuously targeted by thieves within a short period of 9 days in late March, with a total loss of approximately NT$1 million.

After obtaining intelligence, the Criminal Investigation Bureau immediately collected, analyzed, and integrated images from each crime scene. Investigations revealed that the modus operandi of these six cases was identical, leading to the judgment that they were committed by the same group of suspects. Lin and Yang were identified as having significant suspicion.

Police investigations revealed that Lin and Yang, possibly in need of money, deliberately targeted Shopee self-pickup stores in remote areas. They struck in the early hours of the morning when there were few people, wearing helmets and gloves, and using tools such as grinders and iron bars to break into the payment machines and steal cash. They then fled on motorcycles, changing clothes before and after the crimes to evade police pursuit.

After completing evidence collection, the special task force launched an operation on March 28, successfully arresting the two suspects in Tucheng District, New Taipei City, and Pingzhen District, Taoyuan City.

At the same time, electric tools, crowbars, universal motorcycle keys, and other tools used in the crimes were seized on the spot.

After questioning, the two suspects were transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of aggravated theft. (Editor: Li Shuhua) 1150512
