(Central News Agency Reporter Wen Guixiang, Taipei, 12th) President Lai Ching-te today met with Wyoming Governor Gordon and stated that the University of Wyoming signed scientific research memorandums and letters of intent for cooperation with ITRI and others, deepening cooperation in advanced technology and carbon capture, utilization, and storage (CCUS). He hopes to combine the advantages of Taiwan and Wyoming in low-carbon technology and critical minerals to jointly promote net-zero transition, technological innovation, and build a more resilient democratic supply chain.

President Lai Ching-te, accompanied by National Security Council Secretary-General Wu Zhaoxie and Foreign Minister Lin Jialong, met with the visiting delegation led by Gordon (Mark Gordon) this morning. This is Gordon's second visit to Taiwan after his first visit in April last year, which not only demonstrates his high regard for Taiwan but also represents the continuous deepening of the partnership between Taiwan and Wyoming.

The President particularly thanked Gordon for his strong support for exchanges between Wyoming and Taiwan since he took office in 2019, which has established good cooperative relations between the two sides in agriculture, education, and other fields. At the same time, many Taiwanese students have also gone to Wyoming to study, continuously deepening the connection between talents and cultures.

The President stated that in recent years, the two sides have expanded new cooperation opportunities in economy and trade, energy, and technology. For example, last year, the Wyoming Energy Authority and the "Taiwan Quantum Computer and Information Technology Association" signed a memorandum of cooperation to jointly promote the development of quantum technology.

He said that through Gordon's visit, he saw that the University of Wyoming signed scientific research memorandums and letters of intent for cooperation with National Central University, the National Atomic Energy Research Institute, and the Industrial Technology Research Institute, further deepening cooperation between the two sides in advanced technology and carbon capture, utilization, and storage, and jointly promoting net-zero transition and technological innovation. All these show the results of the joint efforts of both sides.

The President stated that in the face of supply chain restructuring and the challenges brought by the AI era, energy security and industrial resilience have become important global concerns. Wyoming's advantages in critical minerals and low-carbon technology make it an indispensable important partner in Taiwan's transformation process.

The President expects that in the future, the two sides will continue to leverage their industrial advantages, deepen cooperation, and jointly build a safer and more resilient democratic supply chain. In addition, the President said that Taiwan became the fourth largest trading partner of the United States last year. He took this opportunity to thank the Wyoming State Legislature for passing pro-Taiwan resolutions for four consecutive years since 2023, supporting Taiwan's international participation and supporting Taiwan and the United States in negotiating and signing a "Bilateral Trade Agreement."

The President said that this year, Taiwan and the United States completed the negotiation and signing of the "Reciprocal Trade Agreement" and the "Investment Memorandum," and held the "Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue" meeting and signed the "Silicon Prosperity Declaration and the Joint Statement on Taiwan-US Economic Security Cooperation." He hopes that in the future, the two sides can continue to expand economic and trade cooperation and create a win-win situation by signing an agreement to avoid double taxation.

Finally, the President stated that he believes that with the support of the visiting guests, Taiwan and Wyoming will continue to deepen cooperation and jointly make more contributions to Taiwan-US relations and global prosperity and development.

Gordon stated in his speech that during this trip to Taiwan, excellent results were achieved in discussions on carbon capture and carbon utilization. There is now an opportunity to lead the world in carbon capture, utilization, and storage. The partnership between Taiwan and Wyoming also highlights the importance of both in net-zero transition and economic aspects.

He said that the current situation is a very exciting time, facing many opportunities but also many challenges. During this trip, relevant scientific research memorandums were signed for CCUS, which is carbon capture, utilization, and storage, and for small modular reactors (SMR). These technologies can produce large amounts of energy and contribute to the AI revolution and AI applications, which are very important developments now.

He stated that Wyoming is also eager to provide relevant energy, such as natural gas and other energy elements, to help Taiwan's economic development. He also hopes that through economic cooperation between Taiwan and Wyoming in the future, relevant infrastructure can be built in the United States. (Editor: Su Lung-chi) 1150512
