Central News Agency (CNA) reporter Yang Szu-jui, Tainan, May 12 (CNA) - Bat Yam Mayor Tzvika Brot led an Israeli delegation to Tainan City Hall today to meet with Mayor Huang Wei-che. The two sides exchanged urban governance experiences, focusing on smart cities and green cities, and shared their promotion and development directions.
Tainan City Government issued a press release stating that Mayor Huang Wei-che said during the meeting that Tainan is the earliest developed city in Taiwan and a cultural ancient capital with over 400 years of history, having just celebrated its 400th important milestone in 2024.
He added that Tainan is also a major agricultural center in Taiwan. In the process of continuous urban development and embracing high-tech industries, the city government actively introduces innovative technologies and combines the advantages of the semiconductor industry supply chain to create a smart and sustainable urban environment.
Huang Wei-che further stated that facing common challenges for global cities, balancing economic development and environmental sustainability is an important issue for all cities. Israel is a country that responds to the environment with high technology. Although Tainan and various Israeli cities have different development backgrounds, they share a high degree of commonality in urban governance concepts and future visions.
He expressed hope that through this sharing, they can promote mutual exchange of urban governance experiences. In the future, more exchange opportunities can be established in areas such as agricultural development, student exchange, innovative environmental management, and waste recycling and water resource technology.
Mayor Brot, on behalf of the delegation, expressed gratitude to Mayor Huang Wei-che and the city government team for their warm reception, and was impressed by Tainan's cuisine and sweet fruits. He stated that Israel and Taiwan share many commonalities, not only democratic values but also cherishing friendship and mutual assistance in times of difficulty. He hoped that Mayor Huang Wei-che and the city government team could visit Israel to further exchange urban governance experiences.
Tainan City Government provided information stating that this Israeli delegation was invited to Taiwan by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delegation members came from Bat Yam, Rishon LeZion, and Emek Hefer cities. Their visit to Taiwan mainly focused on urban governance and vision, with smart cities and green cities as the main themes, exchanging experiences in emerging technologies and AI urban governance to promote sustainable development and common progress through city diplomacy.
