Key News on the US-Iran War
Central News Agency
(Central News Agency reporter Liu Kuan-ting, Taipei, 12th) The Middle East situation continues to affect energy supply. Executive Yuan Premier Cho Jung-tai said today that a special project meeting on civilian affairs regarding the Middle East conflict is held every Monday morning, with various ministries reporting on the problems faced and their solutions. He has already requested that the control of oil and gas not only ensures no problems until August but also expedites the deployment for the fourth quarter.
國民黨 (Kuomintang) Legislator Lin Pei-hsiang asked during today's interpellation session in the Legislative Yuan about the government's response mechanisms and preparations if the energy lifeline were to be cut due to the Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, which would affect oil prices and people's livelihoods.
Cho Jung-tai stated that the special project meeting on civilian affairs regarding the Middle East conflict is held every Monday morning, where the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Justice, and Fair Trade Commission report sequentially on the problems faced and their solutions.
Cho Jung-tai pointed out that from the initial shortage of plastic raw materials and plastic bags, to the control of oil and gas, progress has been made sequentially. Oil prices have not been adjusted for six consecutive weeks, and CPC Corporation has already absorbed over NT$14.1 billion, and this will continue.
Cho Jung-tai emphasized that he hopes the war ends soon, but it will continue for a period. He has already requested that the control of oil and gas not only ensures no problems until August but also extends to the fourth quarter of this year, with expedited deployment and safe inventory. The government will continue to pay attention and work hard, absolutely not allowing public panic to occur.
Lin Pei-hsiang also expressed concern about the impact of oil prices on airline ticket prices and asked the Ministry of Transportation and Communications if it was monitoring market changes. Deputy Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Yen-po said that the Executive Yuan has convened a response meeting, and the general principle is to first ask CPC Corporation to absorb the increase in oil prices, with the government allocating a budget to support it, so domestic airline ticket prices will not increase.
