AI-Restored Old Photos of Matsu to be Featured in "Island Shadows of Time" Special Exhibition Opening on the 16th

(Reporter Pan Hsin-tung, Lienchiang County, 12th) In response to International Museum Day, the Lienchiang County Government's Department of Cultural Affairs is launching a series of activities in May centered on the concept of "Matsu, a World Transit Hub." Among them, the "Island Shadows of Time" special exhibition, opening on the 16th, will showcase old photos of Matsu restored with AI technology.

The Lienchiang County Government's Department of Cultural Affairs today issued a press release stating that May 18th is International Museum Day. This year, with the core concept of "Matsu, a World Transit Hub," it connects exhibitions, lectures, in-museum interactive missions, and walking tours, inviting the public to unseal historical clues and reopen Matsu's connection with the world through in-depth cultural journeys.

The Department of Cultural Affairs stated that the "Island Shadows of Time" special exhibition, opening on the 16th at the Matsu Folk Culture Museum, will feature old Matsu photos restored by AI. The opening ceremony on the same day will invite Cao Baotai, who hails from Fuxing Village, to share his motivation and process for using AI to restore old photos, leading the public through time and space to relive the island's past.

In addition, from the 16th to the 31st, the Matsu Folk Culture Museum will transform into a "World Parcel Sorting Center." The public can pick up activity brochures in the museum and become "parcel sorters," learning about Matsu's role in maritime culture, wartime history, religious beliefs, and international exchanges through mission tests.

The Department of Cultural Affairs added that the event combines the Ministry of Culture's 100 Bases project, "Culture on the Road—Matsu Island Journey," displaying five Matsu itineraries that connect international and historical contexts on the third floor of the Folk Culture Museum. It also invites the public to create postcards in a co-creation area, drawing their favorite scenic spots and routes. Visitors can also use the "Matsu Island Journey Passport" to collect stamps and explore between islands, turning in-museum knowledge into walking paths.

The Department of Cultural Affairs stated that the series of activities includes "Memory Walks." The first walk on the 17th will focus on Matsu-born mountaineer Li Hsiao-shih, leading the public into his childhood home, Jinsha settlement in Nangan, and the wartime landscape, to learn about his life story. On the 23rd, "Qingfan under the International Wave" in Juguang Township's Qingfan Village will explore the history of Western companies' presence and the past military strongholds and trade prosperity.

The Department of Cultural Affairs emphasized through the press release that through the International Museum Day series of activities, more people will see that Matsu is not just a geographical island, but an important cultural node that has long engaged in international exchange, movement, and connection.
