(Central News Agency reporter Wang Chao-yu, Yilan, 11th) A man surnamed Lin is suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and colliding with multiple cars and motorcycles in Yilan City, resulting in the death of a female teacher surnamed Zhong. Prosecutors today indicted Lin, who was already in custody. After a judge held a detention hearing, it was determined that Lin posed a flight risk, and his detention was ordered to continue.
Police investigations revealed that on the evening of March 5th, Lin was driving a Mercedes-Benz on Section 3, Zhongshan Road, Yilan City, allegedly speeding and running red lights. He lost control and collided with a silver sedan in front of him, then subsequently affected six other cars and motorcycles. The driver of the silver sedan, Ms. Zhong, showed no vital signs when taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead after rescue efforts failed.
Police found the drug etomidate in Lin's car and on his person. After a rapid screening test, Lin tested positive for drugs. Although Lin was arrested by the police, he was hospitalized for serious injuries under guard and was not transferred to the Yilan District Prosecutors Office until March 13th. After questioning by the prosecutor, a request for detention was made to the Yilan District Court and granted.
Yilan District Prosecutor Dong Liang-zao today concluded the investigation of the entire case, determining that Lin was involved in the crime of driving under the influence of drugs causing death and negligent injury due to drug-driving under the Criminal Code.
