(Central News Agency reporter Wang Chao-yu, Yilan, May 11) A man surnamed Lin was suspected of driving under the influence of drugs and crashing into multiple vehicles in Yilan City, resulting in the death of a female teacher surnamed Zhong. The prosecutor today indicted Lin, who was already in custody. After a detention hearing, the judge ruled that Lin posed a flight risk and ordered his continued detention.

Police investigations revealed that on the evening of March 5, Lin was driving a Mercedes-Benz in Section 3, Zhongshan Road, Yilan City, allegedly at excessive speed and running red lights. He lost control and collided with a silver sedan in front, subsequently affecting six other vehicles. The driver of the silver sedan, Ms. Zhong, showed no vital signs upon being sent to the hospital and was pronounced dead after resuscitation efforts failed.

Police found the drug etomidate in Lin's car and on his person. A rapid screening test showed a positive drug reaction. Although Lin was arrested by the police, he was hospitalized under guard due to serious injuries. He was transferred to the Yilan District Prosecutors Office on March 13. After further questioning by the prosecutor, a request for detention was filed with and approved by the Yilan District Court.

Yilan District Prosecutor Dong Liang-zao today concluded the investigation of the entire case, determining that Lin was involved in the crime of causing death by driving under the influence of drugs, and causing injury by driving under the influence of drugs, and filed a public prosecution against Lin, transferring the entire case to the court.
