(Central News Agency Kathmandu 11th comprehensive foreign report) A Turkish Airlines flight carrying 277 passengers and 11 crew members caught fire today upon landing at Kathmandu Airport in Nepal. Fortunately, no one was injured in the accident.

Agence France-Presse reported that according to Gyanendra Bhul, spokesperson for the Nepal Civil Aviation Authority, the flight from Istanbul caught fire because sparks came from the right landing gear tire.

Bhul told Agence France-Presse: "All personnel on board are safe, and the rescue operation has concluded. We are currently investigating the accident."

Bhul stated that the incident caused the airport's only runway to be closed for nearly 2 hours in the morning but has since reopened.

This Himalayan nation has some of the world's most remote and challenging runways to land on, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, which is a major challenge even for experienced pilots.

Due to frequent accidents and the EU's decision to blacklist all Nepalese airlines, government officials announced last year plans to install new radar and meteorological monitoring systems.

In 2015, a Turkish Airlines flight carrying 224 passengers overran the runway at Kathmandu Airport. Although no passengers were injured at the time, the accident caused the runway to be closed for 4 days and forced dozens of international flights to be canceled. (Compiler: Chen Yu-ting) 1150511
