(Central News Agency reporter Li Jian-chong, Taipei, 11th) Taiwanese men's 400-meter hurdler Lin Chung-wei clocked a personal best (PB) of 48.77 seconds at the recently concluded Kinami Michitaka Athletics Meet. Although he ranked 4th and missed the podium, he hopes to break the national record at the New Taipei City International Track and Field Open in June.

The Kinami Michitaka Athletics Meet is an important track and field event held in Osaka, Japan, usually as part of the Japan Grand Prix Series, and is also listed as a Continental Tour event by World Athletics.

Lin Chung-wei, 22, has maintained good form since winning a bronze medal at last year's Asian Athletics Championships. Last June, he ran a personal best of 49.00 seconds to win gold at the Taiwan International Track and Field Open.

This year, Lin Chung-wei continued his momentum, first winning gold at the Singapore Open with 49.98 seconds, and then taking gold at last week's National Intercollegiate Athletic Games with a new meet record of 49.28 seconds. At the Kinami Michitaka Athletics Meet, he broke into the 49-second mark.

Lin Chung-wei told the Central News Agency reporter that he has maintained good form since last year, and he quite likes the rhythm of having a competition every 1 to 2 weeks. "This competition not only set a personal best, but it was also the first time I ran under 49 seconds. The next goal is to improve with each race."

Lin Chung-wei's 48.77 seconds at the Kinami Michitaka Athletics Meet was only 0.01 seconds behind the third-place finisher. This result would have earned him a bronze medal at the previous Hangzhou Asian Games.

Lin Chung-wei stated that there are still several months until the Nagoya Asian Games, so he won't think too much about it for now. "But athletes compete to win, at least first strive to advance to the finals. If the condition is really good, of course, I must fight to stand on the podium."

Lin Chung-wei will next participate in the New Taipei City International Track and Field Open on June 6. He said: "The track at Banqiao Stadium should be the best to run on. Of course, I hope to improve further and challenge the national record." The current men's 400-meter hurdles national record is 48.62 seconds, set by Peng Ming-yang at the 2023 World University Games. However, Lin Chung-wei revealed that he has been working on running 13 steps between the second and third hurdles since last year. "But sometimes I achieve it, sometimes I don't." He feels his performance still needs to be more stable. (Editor: Chang Ya-ching) 1150511
