Paris, May 10 (CNA correspondent Zeng Yi-hsuan) At tonight's award ceremony for the Concours Lépine invention exhibition in Paris, the Taiwan delegation presented 64 works and took home 11 gold medals. Among them was the 15-year-old student Gao Xing-hang's magnetic clipless pedal for bicycles, 'Mag-Star Clip-on'. This invention was inspired by his own cycling accident experience, aiming to enhance safety and convenience.

The Concours Lépine, founded in 1901, celebrated its 125th anniversary this year, bringing together hundreds of inventors. Participating inventions were categorized by themes such as daily life, artistic creation, health and inclusivity, transportation, and industry, with a dedicated space for digital and connected inventions.

The organizers stated that nearly half of the works exhibited at Concours Lépine on average are commercialized, with past success stories including the ballpoint pen and the steam iron.

Jury President René Lavergne, in an interview with a CNA reporter, said, 'Taiwan is very well-represented at Concours Lépine. Some inventions are very ingenious and somewhat complex, but there are also many simple and easy-to-understand inventions that make daily life more convenient.'

He cited inventor Liu Ying-qin (Fengshang International)'s improved casing structure for an oil press as an example, saying this work was not complex but addressed people's needs and was very interesting. 'Taiwan aligns well with the spirit of Concours Lépine, so we are delighted to see Taiwanese inventions participating,' he added.

This oil press was awarded a gold medal. Xu Jie-zhong, head of the Taiwan delegation for the Paris International Invention Exhibition, said that this machine generated a rich aroma every time it was switched on, effectively attracting crowds and becoming the 'most popular' item at the venue.

Junior high school student Gao Xing-hang participated with his magnetic clipless pedal for bicycles, 'Mag-Star Clip-on'. 'Clipping in' refers to fixing clipless cycling shoes to the pedals while riding.

He said the inspiration came from some beginners' fear of danger and hassle when clipping in, coupled with his own serious cycling accident experience, which prompted him to create a magnetic clipless pedal that enhances clipping-in safety and convenience, hoping to let more people experience the joy of cycling.

During Gao Xing-hang's conceptualization process, his family also got involved, taking nearly a year and a half to complete this invention, which also brought home a gold medal.

Xu Jie-zhong observed that this year's invention trends included sustainability, industrial utilization, and space planning. For example, Baolun Plastics collaborated with United University on 'Stackable Dishware with Assisting Stacking (Dié Dié)' which can replace plastic wrap; Lih Sheng Quantum Fiber developed biodegradable 3D printing materials; Qiao Xin Precision collaborated with United University on a spring coffee filter, all of which were gold-winning inventions attempting to reduce microplastics.

He also mentioned Changhua Christian Hospital's 'Injector Aid,' which allows precise single-handed injection; Fulongchang Water Purifier's 'Mocoffee Automatic Cold Brew Coffee Machine,' which has industrial utilization prospects; and Weipeng Technology's 'Embedded Kitchen Sink Automatic Cleaning System,' which has wide applications. These inventions also won gold medals.

Other gold-winning inventions included Hongyu Trading's sound-absorbing noise-reducing curtains, Canfengsheng's metal sound-absorbing panels, and Cheng Shiu University's 'Smart Earthquake Evasion and Safety Control System.'

Concours Lépine was held from April 30 to May 11. Wu Xiao-yin, head of the Economic Division of the Taipei Representative Office in France, was one of the award ceremony guests. The silver and bronze medal award ceremonies were held separately on the 11th. (Edited by Chang Chih-hsuan) 1150511
