(Taipei, May 11, Central News Agency reporter He Xiuling) The Taiwan Stock Index opened higher today, reaching a high of 41718.11 points in early trading, up over 100 points, and then fluctuated. Leading stock TSMC fell by 20 yuan, with its stock price at 2270 yuan.

Other major stocks' performance in early trading included Hon Hai (Foxconn) rising by 6.5 yuan to 256.5 yuan; MediaTek falling by 55 yuan to 3575 yuan; and Delta Electronics rising by 40 yuan to 2240 yuan.

The electronics sector index rose by 0.09%, the financial sector index fell by 0.27%, and the OTC (Gretai) index, representing small and medium-sized stocks, rose by 1.35%.
