(Central News Agency reporter Yang Szu-Jui, Tainan 11th) Following public claims on social media that some parks in Tainan were allegedly targeted with a large amount of rodenticide, the city government's preliminary investigation suspects unauthorized placement by citizens. The managing authorities have been instructed to strengthen public education and patrols, and to immediately remove any non-officially placed agents.

Tainan City Government spokesperson Tien Ling-Hu stated today in a media interview that citizens placing rodenticides in parks themselves may violate the Animal Protection Act, potentially harming sparrows, squirrels, and general public pets. She called on citizens to jointly protect pets and park ecosystems, cooperate with government rodent control policies, and refrain from self-administering rodenticides.

Tien Ling-Hu said that Mayor Huang Wei-Che highly values rodent control, having established the "Hantavirus Prevention Project Promotion Group." Adopting Japanese experience, they are using hard-shell trash cans with secure lids to reduce rats' food sources and minimize environmental clutter. Through implementing the "three no's" — no rats coming, no rats eating, no rats living — environmental management is reinforced from the source.

The Tainan City Government Environmental Protection Bureau explained that the concentration and usage of general environmental agents pose lower risks to humans and the environment. To facilitate timely treatment of household pests or rodents, citizens can purchase them as needed, but should look for approval numbers from the Environmental Protection Administration and strictly adhere to usage instructions, placing them in concealed areas difficult for children and pets to access.

The Environmental Protection Bureau emphasized that it is strictly forbidden to directly place loose rodenticides on lawns, walkways, or other public activity areas. District clean-up teams will patrol public activity areas and remove any discovered rodenticides. Additionally, they will strengthen sewer clearing and environmental tidying in areas with high concentrations of restaurants, markets, and key roads, to reduce rat habitats.
