(Taipei, May 11, Central News Agency reporter Chang Hsiung-feng) The Central Weather Administration today issued high-temperature warnings for Tainan and Pingtung, advising caution against temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius. Meteorologist Wu Der-rong stated that from tomorrow until the 16th, a front will move north and south across Taiwan, bringing localized short-term showers or thunderstorms, with rainfall tending to strengthen on the 13th and 14th.
The Central Weather Administration of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications issued a high-temperature warning, indicating hot and scorching weather. Around noon today, Tainan City was under an orange light signal, with a chance of consecutive high temperatures of 36 degrees Celsius. Pingtung County was under a yellow light signal, advising caution against temperatures above 36 degrees Celsius.
Wu Der-rong stated in his "Xietianji Classroom" column for the Meteorological Applications Promotion Foundation that the latest European model simulation shows that today, areas will turn clear to cloudy, with slightly more clouds in northern Taiwan. Daytime temperatures will be warm across all areas, with occasional localized short-term rain in mountainous and eastern areas in the afternoon.
Wu Der-rong stated that tomorrow and the 13th, the third wave of the plum rain season (May and June) front will form near northern Taiwan and move slightly southward. Northern, eastern, and central Taiwan will successively experience localized short-term showers. On the 14th, the front will move slightly northward, but the atmosphere will be very unstable, with localized showers or thunderstorms in central and northern Taiwan, and rainfall trending to gradually increase on the 13th and 14th.
Wu Der-rong pointed out that on the 15th and 16th, the front will move southward again. Although its structure will be loose, strong convection will still develop near Taiwan. Starting from the 13th, attention should be paid to the impact of convective cells accompanied by lightning, strong winds, and sudden heavy rainfall.
Wu Der-rong mentioned that the latest European model simulation shows that the front will move away from the 17th to the 20th. Localized showers or thunderstorms are still expected in the afternoon on the 17th. From the 18th to the 20th, it will be sunny and hot, with reduced afternoon rainfall concentrated in mountainous areas. Since the simulations at the end of the period vary greatly among different countries' models and will continue to be adjusted, further observation is necessary.
