(Central News Agency reporter Pan Tzu-yu, Taipei, 11th) The National Science and Technology Council's (NSTC) Science Park Review Committee today approved 7 investment projects, with a total investment of NT$50.632 billion. In addition, there are 10 capital increase projects, totaling approximately NT$2.175 billion. Among them, the Hsinchu Science Park leveraged its semiconductor cluster effect to attract investments related to silicon carbide (SiC), application-specific integrated circuits (ASIC), and high-performance computing (HPC).
The NSTC press release stated that the approved investment projects include emerging technology industries' Mega Union Industrial Co., Ltd. Pingtung Science Park Branch, and Taiwan Silicon Technology Co., Ltd. Pingtung Science Park Branch; integrated circuit industries' ProPlus Semiconductor Co., Ltd. and Weihong Technology Co., Ltd. Hsinchu Science Park Branch; and optoelectronics industry's Taiwan Perovskite Technology Co., Ltd. Central Taiwan Science Park Branch, among others.
Among the 7 investment projects approved by the NSTC Science Park Review Committee today, ProPlus Semiconductor Co., Ltd. and Weihong Technology Co., Ltd. Hsinchu Science Park Branch are both located in the Hsinchu Science Park. The former has an investment of NT$0.8 billion, and the latter has an investment of NT$0.45 billion.
ProPlus Semiconductor Co., Ltd. is a subsidiary of the Malaysian listed company Mi Technovation Berhad. Its entry into the Hsinchu Science Park, according to the NSTC, highlights ProPlus Semiconductor's emphasis on the research and development of high-power semiconductor components.
ProPlus Semiconductor will establish a Taiwan Research Institute in Hsinchu and will form strategic partnerships with industry, academia, and research institutions in Taiwan's SiC field. Future research results will not only be used by the group's vehicle technology business unit but also provided to strategic partner SiC high-power module manufacturers, thereby introducing them to application system manufacturers.
The NSTC stated that after ProPlus Semiconductor enters the science park, it will be committed to driving the development of SiC-related upstream and downstream industries, enhancing technology, and cultivating talent, thereby strengthening Taiwan's technological competitiveness in the SiC semiconductor industry.
Weihong Technology Co., Ltd. Hsinchu Science Park Branch's main products are application-specific integrated circuits, general and customized silicon intellectual property (IP), ASIC-based system platform design services, and silicon IP interface circuits required for special IC packaging.
The NSTC stated that this project can strengthen Taiwan's technological capabilities in high-end IC design, AI computing chips, and high-performance computing (HPC) supply chains, and cultivate professional talent in high-end IC design, verification, and system integration, which has long-term substantial benefits for Taiwan's semiconductor technology deepening and high-tech talent cultivation.
Mega Union Industrial Co., Ltd. Pingtung Science Park Branch is expected to invest NT$0.5 billion. The NSTC pointed out that Mega Union can improve process water efficiency and reduce carbon footprint, assisting clients in coping with advanced process development and climate change challenges. Mega Union's entry into the Pingtung Science Park provides localized services and intelligent management layout, promptly grasping customer needs and strengthening nearby supply capabilities, improving support efficiency for the technology industry in southern Taiwan, and providing complete system construction and subsequent operation and maintenance services.
Taiwan Silicon Technology Co., Ltd. Pingtung Science Park Branch is expected to invest NT$0.15 billion. The NSTC stated that Taiwan Silicon Technology is a joint venture between Japan's Kanto Chemical and Taiwan's Hongsheng Technology. It applied to invest and establish a Pingtung Science Park Branch, mainly providing chemical process supply systems and chemical waste collection and recycling systems.
