(Central News Agency reporter Yang Chi-fang, Seoul 11th) The Samsung Electronics labor union in South Korea today attended the post-coordination meeting with management. Union chairman Choi Seung-ho stated that if the company does not institutionalize "paying performance bonuses equivalent to 15% of operating profit" and "abolishing the cap on performance bonuses," it will be difficult for labor and management to coordinate.
According to Yonhap News, Samsung Electronics' largest union chairman, Choi Seung-ho (transliterated), stated before attending today's post-coordination meeting that the union has always demanded the institutionalization of paying performance bonuses equivalent to 15% of operating profit and abolishing the cap. He frankly admitted, "If the company has no stance on institutionalization, we believe that even today, coordination cannot be reached."
Choi Seung-ho also mentioned that the management had previously stated they would accumulate funds when performance is good and subsidize when there are losses, but they did not fulfill their promise. "We can no longer trust simple 'written clarification,' but rather hope to view it from the perspective of clear institutionalization." He emphasized that if the company makes more proactive and forward-looking changes, they would also consider corresponding solutions.
Samsung Electronics' labor and management will restart negotiations today and tomorrow through the post-coordination process. The report states that post-coordination refers to a coordination process that restarts after the original coordination process has ended, with the consent of both labor and management, to resolve labor-management disputes, with the Central Labor Relations Commission acting as a mediator to promote negotiations.
Samsung Electronics' labor and management failed to reach an agreement in the coordination held from February to March this year, and therefore initially decided to suspend coordination. However, at the persuasion of the Ministry of Employment and Labor, they finally resumed dialogue through the post-coordination process. If an agreement is not reached, the Samsung union had previously threatened to go on strike from May 21st to June 7th. (Edited by Chang Chih-hsuan) 1150511
