(Central News Agency reporter Huang Yu-ching, Pingtung County, 11th) Pingtung County's Shizi Township is the earliest region in Taiwan to harvest Irwin mangoes. Every year, it holds the "Shizi Haomang" series of activities to promote the indigenous area. As the harvest season is underway, the township office announced the launch of 6kg sharing boxes, with an agri-food experience market set to debut in mid-June, hoping to drive local revitalization and industry.

The Shizi Township Office held the "Shizi Haomang" launch press conference today, where Shizi Township Mayor Zhu Hong-en and Council of Indigenous Peoples Chairman Tseng Chih-yung (Ljaucu‧Zingrur) jointly announced the official start of this year's Shizi Township Mango Season series of activities.

Mayor Zhu Hong-en stated in his speech that mango orders officially began today, and on the 23rd, there will be an off-site sale at Taipei Syntrend Creative Park. On June 13th and 14th, the main event will be held at Shitou Mountain Plaza in the township, combining a music market, agri-food experiences, and local cultural characteristics, allowing the public not only to taste Irwin mangoes but also to visit various tribal attractions in Shizi Township and experience the passion and sweetness between the mountains and the sea.

Mayor Zhu Hong-en said that Shizi Township's mangoes are not just agricultural products; they also carry the hard work of farmers, the taste of the land, tribal culture, and the power to drive local development. The township office promotes "Shizi Haomang" hoping to assist farmers in expanding sales and enhancing brand recognition, allowing local industries to be seen.

Chairman Tseng Chih-yung stated that Shizi Township's mangoes are particularly fragrant and sweet due to the sea breeze and the farmers' dedication. He hopes that Shizi Township's quality control and marketing can be further improved in the future, allowing agricultural products to reach all of Taiwan and even internationally. In addition, the Council of Indigenous Peoples has subsidized the paving of cement roads for industrial roads in Shizi Township, making farmers' operations more convenient, and will continue to support the development of indigenous areas in the future.

Fruit farmer Xu Hui-yu pointed out that this year, due to good weather, the yield increased by about 50% compared to last year, and prices consequently fell by nearly half. Coupled with rising production costs this year, profits are a concern.

The Shizi Township Office mentioned that Irwin mangoes are the main economic fruit tree in the township, with a cultivation area of over 300 hectares. The harvest season is from May to July each year, making it the earliest harvest region for Irwin mangoes. Due to the favorable climate and soil, the fruits are sweet and fragrant. This year's limited-time early bird event offers 6kg sharing boxes, featuring "Salt-Wind Irwin Mangoes" direct from the origin, perfect for family consumption and suitable for office group purchases.
