(Central News Agency reporter Wang Bao-er, Taipei, 11th) With International Museum Day on May 18th approaching, over 60 museums and cultural institutions affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and across Taiwan will open specially on Monday, May 18th, a day when most museums are routinely closed. The Ministry of Culture will simultaneously launch a series of activities and a cultural currency "check-in and collect badges" flash event.

The International Council of Museums (ICOM) designates May 18th each year as International Museum Day and sets an annual theme. This year's International Museum Day theme is "Museums Uniting a Divided World: Dialogue, Understanding, Inclusion, Peace."

The Ministry of Culture announced today via a press release that, in response to this year's theme, it has specially planned to use "sustainability, equality, and inclusion" as the main curatorial axis, presenting the concrete achievements of Taiwan's museums in shaping an inclusive and open cultural ecosystem in contemporary society. This includes green exhibitions responding to climate change, accessible facilities eliminating sensory and age barriers, and inclusive designs for engaging with collections.

The Ministry of Culture will hold a series of activities from May 15th to 18th at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature's Art and Culture Hall, inviting a total of 13 institutions, including those affiliated with the Ministry of Culture and others. The event will feature exhibition designs specially using environmentally friendly and sustainable materials, and will also offer nearly 20 types of hands-on activities, workshops, lectures, and performances, such as a "Literary Prescription Charging Station" for caregivers and a "It's Okay to Get Lost" visual novel mobile game experience for teenagers.

In addition to the main event at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature, to encourage young people to visit museums, the Ministry of Culture is also launching a cultural currency "check-in and collect badges" flash event. From May 15th to 31st, teenagers who have received the 2026 cultural currency can obtain a limited-edition "Instant Domination" badge for the second quarter by scanning the museum's QR code twice with the APP at participating institutions offering promotions and preferential activities for the May 18th Museum Day.
