(Central News Agency reporter Chung Jung-feng, Taipei, 11th) The Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry announced this afternoon that Taiwan's electronic and testing equipment has grown rapidly, driven by strong demand for semiconductors and AI servers, which in turn boosted Taiwan's machinery industry's export growth in April, marking 15 consecutive months of positive growth.
Observing the trends in Taiwan's machinery industry, the Machinery Association pointed out that global economic development is still full of uncertainties due to the Middle East conflict. As Taiwan's machinery industry is export-oriented, and machinery manufacturers have a wide range of product categories, many manufacturers are still affected by the New Taiwan Dollar exchange rate and the Middle East conflict. Manufacturers must respond cautiously and continuously improve their international competitiveness.
The Machinery Association announced this afternoon that the machinery export value in April was US$2.832 billion, a decrease of 4.8% from US$2.976 billion in March, but an increase of 16.9% compared to US$2.423 billion in the same period in 2025; if calculated in New Taiwan Dollars, it was NT$90.195 billion, an increase of 13.2% compared to the same period last year.
According to the association's statistics, the machinery export value for the first four months of this year was US$11.108 billion, an increase of 18% compared to the same period last year; if calculated in New Taiwan Dollars, it was approximately NT$351.555 billion, an increase of 13.7% compared to the same period last year.
The Machinery Association analyzed that Taiwan's machinery export value continued to grow in April, showing positive growth for 15 consecutive months since February 2025. Although the conflict between the United States, Israel, and Iran broke out at the end of February, causing shipping disruptions and rising energy costs, machinery exports in March and April were not significantly affected. Currently, Taiwan's machinery industry exports are still growing steadily.
The association pointed out that benefiting from the continued strong demand for AI and semiconductors, export orders for electronic and testing equipment performed brilliantly in April. Among them, electronic equipment exports continued to grow significantly in April, with an export value of US$2.131 billion in the first four months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 39.9%.
The Machinery Association pointed out that orders for machine tool products are still relatively weak, with an export value of US$150 million in April, a year-on-year decrease of 15.1%; machine tool exports for the first four months of this year were US$606 million, a decrease of 3.4% compared to the same period last year, making it one of the main export products of Taiwan's machinery that still shows negative growth.
Observing exchange rate movements, the Machinery Association pointed out that the current New Taiwan Dollar exchange rate is still unfavorable for Taiwan's machinery export competitiveness. There is a significant difference in the depreciation range between the New Taiwan Dollar and the currencies of competitor countries such as Japan and South Korea, and the exchange rate difference continues to affect the export competitiveness of Taiwan's machinery products.
