(Central News Agency reporter Chang Yi-lien, Kaohsiung, 11th) A driver surnamed Yu, operating a dog catching vehicle, collided with a residential building in Kaohsiung's Yanchao District yesterday while driving under the influence. Police tests showed Yu's alcohol level was as high as 1.17 mg/L, and he was subsequently referred for prosecution on charges of public endangerment. The Kaohsiung Animal Protection Office stated that it will demand the contractor dismiss the individual involved and pursue accountability.

Officers from the Kaohsiung City Police Department's Gangshan Precinct explained that at around 11 PM yesterday, 54-year-old Yu was driving a vehicle on Daren Road in Yanchao District when he inexplicably collided with a roadside residential building, causing damage to the exterior of the building and the vehicle. Yu was trapped inside the vehicle for a time, while the passenger, a man surnamed Shi, managed to crawl out. Both were conscious and sustained abrasions and contusions, for which they were sent to the hospital.

Police stated that Yu's alcohol test result was as high as 1.17 mg/L, and he was subsequently referred to the Ciaotou District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of public endangerment. The passenger, Shi, was also fined according to Article 35, Paragraph 8 of the Road Traffic Management and Penalty Act. The exact cause of the accident is pending clarification by the traffic police brigade.

Kaohsiung City Animal Protection Office Deputy Director Kuo Ming-chin, in a media interview, stated that the incident involved a dog catching vehicle outsourced by the Animal Protection Office to perform animal rescue duties. The vehicle was en route to Luzhu District yesterday evening to handle a stray cat rescue case when it accidentally collided with a residential building.

Kuo Ming-chin mentioned that the office strongly condemns the contractor's personnel for drunk driving during duty. It will demand the contractor dismiss the personnel involved, pursue relevant responsibilities according to the contract, and seek compensation for related losses from the contractor. As for personnel medical expenses and residential property damage, the contractor will be responsible for handling them.

Kuo Ming-chin stated that the office will comprehensively review its outsourced management mechanism and require contractors to strengthen personnel management to prevent similar incidents from happening again. (Editor: Chen Jen-hua) 1150511
