(Central News Agency reporter Wang Chao-yu, New Taipei 11th) Four British tourists staying at a guesthouse in Jiufen, New Taipei City, early this morning were suspected of carbon monoxide poisoning due to poor ventilation from a water heater. The four individuals felt dizzy and unwell and sought medical attention on their own, and have since been discharged after treatment.

It is understood that the four British tourists, two males and two females aged between 20 and 24, reported feeling unwell to the guesthouse operator while staying there early this morning. After the operator helped them change rooms, their symptoms did not improve. The four then took a taxi to Keelung Hospital of the Ministry of Health and Welfare for treatment around 2 AM.

Chen Hui-tsai, Director of the Emergency Medicine Department at Keelung Hospital, stated in an interview that the four foreign tourists arrived at the emergency room early this morning with symptoms of headache, dizziness, nausea, and chest tightness. Their simultaneous onset of symptoms alerted the doctors, and after testing, it was confirmed to be carbon monoxide poisoning. As the symptoms were not too severe, high-concentration oxygen was not used. During follow-up in the morning, their values had returned to normal and symptoms had improved. The four were discharged from the hospital at 7 AM.

After an on-site inspection by personnel from the Sixth Rescue and Emergency Brigade of the New Taipei City Fire Department, around 5 AM, the carbon monoxide level on the first floor of the guesthouse was within the safe range. However, the gas water heater installed on the second-floor balcony had poor ventilation, and the operator has been advised to adjust its location for improvement. (Editor: Li Shu-hua) 1150511
