(Central News Agency reporter Chen Jung-chen, Taipei, 11th) In the WTA Rome Open held in Italy, Taiwanese tennis star Hsieh Su-wei once again teamed up with Chinese ace Wang Xinyu. In the first round of women's doubles, they came from behind to defeat the third-seeded pair with scores of 6-7(2-7), 7-5, 10-6, successfully advancing to the Round of 16.

The Rome Open, held on clay courts, is a WTA 1000-level tournament. Taiwan's Hsieh Su-wei, ranked 13th in women's doubles, once again partnered with 24-year-old Chinese ace Wang Xinyu, reforming their "Strait Combination." In the first round, they challenged the third-seeded pair of Elise Mertens from Belgium and Zhang Shuai from China, both of whom had also been Hsieh Su-wei's partners in the past.

After the first set began, the match was tightly contested, with both sides breaking each other's serve twice, resulting in a 6-6 tie. Unfortunately, Hsieh Su-wei and Wang Xinyu failed to capitalize on their serve opportunities in the crucial tie-break, leading to consecutive lost points and conceding the first set 6-7(2-7).

With no room for error, Hsieh Su-wei and Wang Xinyu continued to battle fiercely in the second set. Fortunately, after breaking serve in the 10th game, the "Strait Combination" regained their momentum, then "held and broke" to stage a comeback with a 7-5 win, leveling the match. Entering the decisive super tie-break, Hsieh Su-wei and Wang Xinyu maintained their excellent form, quickly building a significant lead, and ultimately won 10-6.

As Chan Hao-ching and Wu Fang-hsien were eliminated in the first round, Hsieh Su-wei became the only remaining Taiwanese representative. After successfully advancing to the Round of 16 with Wang Xinyu, they will next face the strong Russian pair of Mirra Andreeva and Diana Shnaider, who won silver in the Paris Olympics women's doubles, as they vie for a spot in the quarterfinals.
