(Central News Agency London 10th comprehensive foreign report) British pop singer Dua Lipa recently filed a lawsuit, accusing South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics of unauthorized use of her image to market TV products, demanding at least 15 million US dollars (approximately NT$470 million) in compensation.

Reuters reported that Samsung Electronics is accused of using a copyrighted image of Dua Lipa on the front of its retail TV product packaging, allowing the company to market the product by misleading consumers into believing she was involved in endorsement or promotion.

According to the complaint, the photo is titled "Dua Lipa - Backstage at Austin City Limits, 2024," and Dua Lipa owns all full and comprehensive rights to it. The lawsuit was filed last week in a U.S. federal court in California.

A Samsung spokesperson declined to comment, stating only that they could not comment on ongoing litigation, while Dua Lipa's legal team did not immediately respond to media requests for comment.

In addition to copyright and trademark rights, Dua Lipa also accused Samsung of infringing her "right of publicity," which is the unauthorized commercial use of her name, image, and other commercial attributes.

Dua Lipa's lawyers attached screenshots of social media posts and comments in the complaint, arguing that the TV packaging with her photo indeed influenced consumers' purchasing intent.

One fan comment in the screenshot read that they would buy this TV "just because Dua Lipa's photo is on it."

The legal team pointed out that Dua Lipa learned of Samsung's alleged infringement as early as June last year and asked the company to stop using her photo, but Samsung did not take special measures and continued to sell related products.

The legal team also stated that Samsung's infringement "has and continues" to severely harm her commercial interests and brand image, as this practice misled consumers into believing she endorsed and promoted the related products. (Compiler: Liu Wen-yu) 1150511
