Central News Agency (Reporter Yang Shu-min, Taipei, 11th) In response to videos from citizens showing rats at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an today stated that cleaning and disinfection efforts are being progressively carried out across all 12 districts of Taipei, and this also includes centrally administered venues like the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, emphasizing joint efforts.
The rat sightings in Taipei have drawn attention. Following reports of rats at the Grand Hyatt Taipei and rats falling from the ceiling in the Eslite Spectrum Nanxi branch's food court, citizens also released videos showing rats at the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall.
Chiang Wan-an attended the "Taipei Public Welfare Charity Platform" appreciation event today. During a media interview, he mentioned that some citizens jokingly referred to the rats at Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall as "Chiang Kai-mouse." Chiang Wan-an said that comprehensive cleaning and disinfection measures are being carried out, progressing across all 12 districts, and this includes the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall, with centrally administered venues working together.
When asked by the media about his thoughts on Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen canceling her schedule last weekend to "catch rats" in the market, Chiang Wan-an reiterated that Taipei City is currently conducting a comprehensive major cleaning and disinfection across its 12 administrative districts. They will continue cleaning and disinfection efforts in markets, commercial districts, back alleys, and other places, mobilizing personnel from various bureaus and departments. He advised that if citizens spot rats currently, they should handle it according to relevant principles through cleaning and disinfection, and can contact the Environmental Protection Department or cleaning teams for assistance if needed.
Separately, regarding the accident where an employee at an escape room choked to death while acting as a hanging ghost, the media asked if a cross-departmental joint inspection mechanism should be established for the immersive entertainment industry. Chiang Wan-an responded that upon learning of the incident, he immediately instructed the Department of Labor's Labor Inspection Office to conduct an on-site inspection. The report confirmed that the operator violated the Occupational Safety and Health Act and its regulations, thus they immediately ordered a suspension of operations and will subsequently impose fines and pursue accountability according to the law.
