(Central News Agency reporter Cheng Wei-chen, Changhua, 11th) The Dacheng Township Office in Changhua County held a groundbreaking ceremony for the second ossuary at the 6th public cemetery today. Dozens of members of the Dingzhuang Anti-Second Tower Self-Help Association protested outside the venue; Dacheng Township Chief Chen Yu-chao stated that existing funeral facilities are severely insufficient, and the new ossuary is expected to be completed in October 2027.

The Dacheng Township Office held a groundbreaking and blessing ceremony for the new construction project of the second ossuary at the 6th public cemetery. Members of the self-help association held banners and chanted slogans outside the venue, demanding to enter to express their demands, but were blocked by the police.

"We demand the cancellation of the second tower and a clean Dingzhuang for us!" said Hsu Kuo-cheng, head of the self-help association, in a media interview. He stated that building two ossuaries in the same village is very unfair to Dingzhuang Village, and they will continue to protest even though the project has started.

Chen Yu-chao stated that the entire township has a population of about 14,000, with severe aging. The existing two ossuaries are located in the 3rd public cemetery in Shanjiao Village and the 6th public cemetery in Dingzhuang Village, with only over 200 remaining spaces. There is an urgent need to expand the ossuary. The second ossuary at the 6th public cemetery can provide about 18,000 spaces, eliminating worries for the next 30 to 40 years.

Chen Yu-chao said that building the ossuary is imperative and apologized to the protesting residents, but believed they would understand in the future. (Edited by Li Ming-tsung) 1150511
