(Central News Agency reporter Lu Gang-jun, Hsinchu County, 11th) Bridgestone Taiwan announced today that, in response to global operational strategy adjustments, it will immediately cease production operations at its Hsinchu plant and initiate a business transformation. The Hsinchu County Government stated that the company has legally reported mass layoffs, with over 500 employees expected to be laid off, effective in July.

Luo Mei-wen, a Hsinchu County Councilor from the Labor Party, told the Central News Agency that this morning he went to Bridgestone's Hsinchu Hukou factory to check on the workers and found that the company had dispatched multiple tour buses to transport hundreds of employees to four locations for "meetings," expressing concern that employees might be forced to sign documents without fully understanding the situation, affecting their rights.

Hsinchu County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke stated in an interview at the council today that the company has handled the layoff procedures in accordance with the law, and the company's labor union has also agreed to Bridgestone's approach. The county government will continue to track and provide necessary assistance, closely monitoring industry development trends.

Lu Zhao-yun, section chief of the Labor-Management Relations Section of the Hsinchu County Government's Labor Affairs Department, stated in a phone interview with the Central News Agency that according to regulations, mass layoffs must be reported 60 days in advance. Bridgestone submitted relevant documents last week and today dispatched personnel to formally complete the mass layoff reporting process.

Lu Zhao-yun said that Bridgestone's layoff date is set to take effect on July 10th, affecting over 500 employees, including Taiwanese and foreign nationals. The company had informed union officials of the severance package last week, and it is understood that the package is more favorable than required by law. Today, the company and affected employees began negotiations.

Bridgestone Taiwan Co., Ltd. issued a statement on its official website today, announcing the initiation of business transformation in Taiwan to respond to global operational strategy adjustments and long-term market development needs. It will immediately cease production operations at its Hsinchu plant and end all related manufacturing activities. In the future, it will continue to deeply cultivate the Taiwan market, transforming into an operation focused on sales and services. (Editor: Li Xi-zhang) 1150511
