The 'Umbrella寿 Energy: Chung You-Hui Creative Exhibition' will be held from May 16 to July 12 at the Taichung City Seaport Art Center. This exhibition is not only a retrospective of Chung You-Hui's 80 years of life but also a visual feast about energy, nature, and the order of the universe.
When Chung You-Hui studied in the Department of Fine Arts at National Taiwan Normal University, he established a solid artistic foundation under the tutelage of several senior artists; inspired by his teacher Liao Hsiu-ping, he established printmaking as his lifelong creative ambition.
After Chung You-Hui returned to Taiwan in 1987 with a Master's degree in Art from the University of Tsukuba in Japan, he transformed what he had learned into a driving force for promoting printmaking education. He successively established the Printmaking Center and Graduate Institute at National Taiwan University of Arts, and after retirement, he served as the honorary art director of the International Printmaking Center at National Taiwan Normal University, becoming a leading figure in modern printmaking art.
The Taichung City Seaport Art Center stated that Chung You-Hui's creation does not view printmaking as a mere technique but as a ritual related to physical labor and accumulated time. Through repeated plate making, printing, and transfer, abstract life experiences are refined into concrete visual expressions; furthermore, with printmaking as the center, it expands to oil painting and multimedia, demonstrating a grand life dynamic.
