Wu Tsung-hsien and Lin Kuo-chang Visit Yilan's Datong Township, Present Platforms to Win Indigenous Support

(Yilan, May 10, Central News Agency reporter Wang Chao-yu) Kuomintang Yilan County Magistrate candidate Wu Tsung-hsien visited Datong Township indigenous communities yesterday, emphasizing the promotion of indigenous village construction and cultural preservation. Democratic Progressive Party Yilan County Magistrate candidate Lin Kuo-chang also went deep into Datong Township, advocating for respect for traditional territorial land rights and the implementation of mechanisms for tribal participation.

Wu Tsung-hsien's campaign office today issued a press release stating that Wu Tsung-hsien, accompanied by KMT County Councilor Shen Chih-hung, visited Datong Township yesterday to participate in a joint village-school sports day and interact with local residents. Yang Yu-fu, an elder of the Lunpi tribe, even bestowed upon Wu Tsung-hsien the name 'Tiemu' (Temu), meaning 'a brave and skilled warrior.'

Wu Tsung-hsien stated that Datong Township has a vast area and faces challenges such as transportation, medical care, education, and industrial development. If given the opportunity to lead the county government in the future, he will cooperate with tribal leaders to promote indigenous village construction, tourism, and cultural preservation, encouraging more people to return home for development.

Wu Tsung-hsien expressed gratitude to the elder for bestowing the name 'Tiemu,' stating that he likes it very much and will keep it in mind as a reminder. In the future, no matter where he goes, he will uphold his original intention to stand with the local people, work hard for Yilan, and lead Yilan on a new path.

Lin Kuo-chang also participated in the joint village-school sports day yesterday. Lin Kuo-chang stated through text that in the future, he will promote the 'Support Tribes, Care for Indigenous People' policy. Regardless of mining, geothermal power generation, or tourism development, mechanisms for tribal participation and informed consent should be implemented. He will also promote overall planning according to the actual scope of tribes, combining rural regeneration and land rezoning to improve tribal public facilities and residential spaces.

Lin Kuo-chang stated that he will continue to support indigenous experimental schools, allowing children to grow up in a cultural and linguistic environment from a young age, while also promoting cultural revitalization work such as rituals, traditional skills, and dance. He will also preserve precious languages and cultural memories through digital archiving and indigenous language teaching. He will also promote tribal cultural ecological tourism, combining local characteristics to create more opportunities for young people to return to their hometowns.

Furthermore, Lin Kuo-chang pointed out that he advocates for continued implementation of the 'Ten-Year Long-Term Care Plan 3.0,' strengthening the functions of cultural health stations, and promoting full subsidies for health insurance premiums for indigenous people aged 55 and above, reducing family burdens and allowing elders to live peacefully in a familiar cultural environment.
