Central News Agency (Reporter Su Ssu-yun in Taipei on the 10th) – Taipower's 2026 new employee recruitment test commenced today, with 5257 actual test-takers and an average acceptance rate of 14.63%, similar to previous years. Taipower stated that the list for the second round of tests is expected to be announced on July 14, with the second round commencing on August 4. After recruitment and completion of training, the starting salary for employees will be close to NT$38,000, and for electricity technicians, such as 'Spidermen,' who work in the field, the starting salary can exceed NT$40,000.

Taipower's 2026 new employee recruitment test took place today simultaneously at 8 testing centers across 4 test areas: Taipei, Taichung, Kaohsiung, and Hualien.

Taipower stated in a press release that it continues to recruit new talent to strengthen power supply stability and grid resilience, and continuously improve the quality of electricity services. This recruitment will enlist 769 new personnel across 14 categories, including power distribution, transmission, electrical engineering, general administration, and accounting. The number of additional successful candidates will be announced before the first round of results.

Taipower pointed out that the power distribution line maintenance category, with the most openings, is expected to recruit 436 people and attracted about 1600 applicants, vying to become Taipower's 'Spidermen' and 'Ninja Turtles.' The most competitive category, general administration, which has historically attracted the largest number of applicants, saw 4703 people competing for 69 positions, resulting in an acceptance rate of only 1.47%. To protect the employment rights of people with disabilities, an additional 26 positions were opened for general administration for people with disabilities, with a total of 447 applicants.

Taipower emphasized that to protect the rights of test-takers, the National Communications Commission (NCC) was stationed in the examination centers during the test period to assist in monitoring abnormal electromagnetic waves and conducting electronic and metal detection. The Agency Against Corruption also sent personnel to strengthen patrols in the examination centers to prevent illegal cheating. To provide a comfortable and quiet testing environment, air conditioning was activated simultaneously in all 8 examination centers nationwide, but accompanying family members were not allowed.

Taipower reminded that test questions and answers for the first round of tests will be available on the recruitment website starting May 11. The list for the second round of tests is expected to be announced on July 14, and the second round of tests will be held starting August 4. The second round will include re-evaluation tests, field tests, practical skill tests, and oral interviews. Applicants for power distribution line maintenance, power transmission line maintenance, and substation equipment maintenance categories must obtain a manual transmission small car driver's license before the second round of tests due to job requirements.

Taipower stated that frontline electricity personnel rely on professional skills and ample physical strength. The second round of tests requires passing tests such as pull-ups, grip strength, weighted walking, and color vision to ensure they can undertake the important mission of maintaining power supply. To attract experienced professionals, practical skill tests have been included in all electricity technician recruitment categories and are factored into the total score, hoping to find more personnel with practical technical abilities.

Taipower noted that ultimately recruited personnel must undergo one year of cultivation class training and on-the-job training. Electricity technicians who work in the field or possess electricity-related professional certifications can further advance their salary grade, with starting salaries exceeding NT$40,000.
