(Central News Agency reporter Yang Szu-Jui, Tainan, May 10) The Tainan City Health Bureau expanded its special inspection campaign for medical aesthetics clinics across the city. Yesterday, a suspected pinhole camera device was found inside a smoke detector on the ceiling of a beauty room at Yan Yi Ming Medical Aesthetics Clinic in West Central District. Although the operator presented documents showing patient awareness and consent for audio recording, the case has still been transferred to the police and prosecutors for clarification.
Tainan City Health Bureau Director Li Tsui-Feng told a Central News Agency reporter today that the recent incidents of pinhole cameras installed in medical aesthetics clinics have raised public concern about the safety of medical privacy. In addition to inspecting three Airiti clinics within its jurisdiction, the Health Bureau launched an expanded special inspection campaign for medical aesthetics clinics starting from May 8. The "Regulations on the Installation of Surveillance Cameras in Consultation Rooms and Changing Areas" has been designated as a key inspection item, strictly prohibiting the installation of recording equipment in areas involving patients' private parts examinations or changing areas.
Li Tsui-Feng stated that the Health Bureau urgently procured relevant detection tools to comprehensively expand inspections of all medical aesthetics institutions and beauty/body care operators in the city, strengthening the review of non-public spaces for suspected hidden camera devices.
Li Tsui-Feng pointed out that during a special inspection at Yan Yi Ming Medical Aesthetics Clinic in West Central District yesterday, a suspected pinhole camera device was found inside a smoke detector on the ceiling of a beauty room. The Health Bureau immediately sealed the site according to procedures and notified the police and prosecutors to handle the matter. Although the person in charge provided patient-signed documents proving consent for full audio recording during the consultation process, and only audio was recorded in the consultation room, the Health Bureau still demanded the clinic immediately remove the camera equipment and subsequently transferred the case to the police and prosecutors for further clarification.
Li Tsui-Feng stated that investigations revealed the medical aesthetics clinic has five registered branches nationwide, two of which are in Tainan City. The Health Bureau immediately coordinated with police and prosecutors to inspect another branch located in Yongkang District. The inspection results showed no illegal recording equipment was found at the Yongkang branch. Additionally, the Kaohsiung City Health Bureau has been notified to inspect the other three branches.
Li Tsui-Feng noted that as of yesterday, the Health Bureau had inspected 17 medical institutions and 10 beauty/body care operators across the city, and the results have been fully disclosed in the "Medical Aesthetics Safety Inspection Zone" on the Health Bureau's website homepage. The public can check online before choosing a medical aesthetics clinic. (Editor: Chang Ya-Ching) 1150510
