(Central News Agency Reporter Hsiao Po-yang, Nantou County, 10th) A man surnamed Huang drove into and then stabbed Mr. Hsiao to death, and further intended to kill Mr. Hsiao's family. The case was prosecuted for murder and other charges, and transferred to the court for review in February. The court, considering Mr. Huang committed a serious crime, might abscond, and posed a risk of repeated offenses, ruled to extend Mr. Huang's detention for two months starting from May 10th.

In December last year, 51-year-old Mr. Huang from Mingjian Township drove his car into 65-year-old Mr. Hsiao, his neighbor, while Mr. Hsiao was riding a motorcycle, then stabbed him to death. The Nantou District Prosecutors Office indicted Mr. Huang on charges including murder. The case is being heard by a citizen judge panel at the Nantou District Court. Given that Mr. Huang is involved in murder and attempted murder and the serious suspicion of his crime, the court ruled on February 10th this year to detain Mr. Huang for three months.

According to the criminal ruling of the Nantou District Court, Mr. Huang, due to trivial matters such as believing the victim Mr. Hsiao's entire family had installed speakers that disturbed his life, drove his car into the victim and then stabbed the victim with a knife. He then immediately went to the victim's home, intending to continue killing the victim's family members. There is clear factual evidence that Mr. Huang has a risk of repeatedly committing the same crime, and thus the reasons for detention still exist.

The ruling stated that the defendant is suspected of committing crimes such as murder and attempted murder under the Criminal Code, and the suspicion of his crime is significant. These are serious offenses with a minimum principal penalty of imprisonment for five years or more. It is foreseeable that the defendant will face a very heavy sentence in the future. Based on human nature's tendency to avoid misfortune and escape responsibility, there is strong reason to believe there is a high possibility of flight. Furthermore, the alleged crimes caused irreparable damage to the legal interests of life and severely disrupted legal order.

The ruling concluded that balancing the harmfulness of the defendant's alleged crimes, the effective exercise of national criminal judicial power, public interest, and the degree of restriction on the defendant's personal liberty, it was determined that bail, entrustment, or restriction of residence would be insufficient to ensure the smooth progress of future trial proceedings, nor could it prevent the possibility of recidivism. Therefore, continued detention is necessary, and the court ruled to extend the defendant's detention for two months from May 10th. (Edited by: Chen Ren-hua) 1150510
