Kaohsiung DOH Inspects Yan Yiming Clinic; No Smoke Detector Pinhole Camera Found

(Central News Agency reporter Tsai Meng-yu, Kaohsiung, May 10) A suspected pinhole camera device was found inside a smoke detector at Yan Yiming Medical Aesthetic Clinic in Tainan City. The Kaohsiung City Department of Health dispatched personnel to inspect its Kaohsiung branch and did not find any smoke detector-type pinhole camera equipment. However, they took the surveillance camera host from the consultation rooms for further clarification and investigation by prosecutors and police.

Yesterday, the Tainan City Department of Health found a suspected pinhole camera device inside a smoke detector on the ceiling of Yan Yiming Medical Aesthetic Clinic in West Central District. Although the operator presented documents showing patient awareness and consent to audio recording, the case was still transferred to prosecutors and police for clarification. As the clinic has a branch in Kaohsiung, the Tainan City Department of Health also notified the Kaohsiung City Department of Health to conduct an inspection.

The Kaohsiung City Department of Health issued a press release today stating that after receiving intelligence yesterday regarding a clinic in Kaohsiung City, it immediately dispatched personnel to "Wu Chiaming Ophthalmology Yan Yiming Clinic" for an unannounced inspection.

Upon on-site inspection, the clinic had one surveillance camera in the consultation room and two in the treatment room. No smoke detector-type pinhole devices were found. The Kaohsiung City Department of Health stated that to ensure public peace of mind during medical treatment, they obtained the consent of the responsible physician and took the surveillance camera host for further clarification and investigation by the prosecutorial and police authorities.

The Kaohsiung City Department of Health emphasized that medical institutions must strictly adhere to the "Medical Institution Medical Privacy Protection Regulations" when installing monitoring equipment and protect patient privacy in accordance with Article 72 of the Medical Act.
