(Central News Agency Reporter Lu Gang-jun Hsinchu City 10th Report) With the migratory bird season for northern migration approaching, the protected Black-faced Spoonbill has recently appeared in Hsinchu City's Xiangshan Wetland. Many other migratory birds have also gathered in groups, attracting numerous photography enthusiasts and birdwatchers.

The Hsinchu City Government today issued a press release stating that in recent years, it has promoted wetland conservation, ecological education, and sustainable tourism. The Xiangshan Wetland Crab-watching Trail has successfully been selected as one of Taiwan's top 100 tourist attractions, providing a safe and comfortable observation space while adhering to ecologically friendly principles. This allows the public to experience the rich vitality of the wetland up close without disturbing the natural habitat.

According to the Hsinchu City Government's Department of Economic Development, numerous winter migratory birds, including Black-faced Spoonbill, Pied Avocet, Eurasian Wigeon, Northern Shoveler, Eurasian Teal, Northern Pintail, Black-winged Stilt, Red-necked Stint, Curlew Sandpiper, Whimbrel, Bar-tailed Godwit, Greater Sand Plover, Oriental Pratincole, and Mongolian Plover, are successively gathering for their northbound migration through Xiangshan Wetland. Recently, the rare Broad-billed Sandpiper has also been discovered.

Along the Crab-watching Trail, the Department of Economic Development pointed out that the public can observe migratory birds flying low, resting, and foraging up close. During low tide, large groups of fiddler crabs can be seen foraging on the mudflats. The public can combine their itinerary with the 17-kilometer coastal bicycle path to enjoy birdwatching, crab appreciation, and cycling along the coast, experiencing the unique natural charm of Hsinchu's coast.

The Department of Economic Development stated that Xiangshan Wetland is a national-level important wetland, and its rich resources of benthic fish, shrimp, and shellfish nurture a diverse ecosystem. Tourists visiting must adhere to ecological regulations, such as not entering the mudflats arbitrarily and not disturbing wild animals, to jointly protect the precious natural assets.
