Ms. Lai suffered severe injuries and died after being sent to the hospital. The 67-year-old driver, a man surnamed Cheng, also sustained injuries and was sent to the hospital. Police today, after questioning, will send the case for prosecution on suspicion of negligent homicide.

The Baihe Precinct of the Tainan City Government Police Bureau told the Central News Agency today that when Mr. Cheng was driving on Provincial Highway 172 in Baihe District, he allegedly lost focus and drifted lanes, hitting Ms. Lai before colliding with roadside objects and stopping.
