(Central News Agency reporter Lai Yu-chen, Taipei, 9th) The Danjiang Bridge will officially open on the 12th, with a grand opening ceremony held today. The Ministry of the Interior pointed out that after 36 years, with a joint investment of NT$24.8 billion from the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and the New Taipei City Government, the Danjiang Bridge is finally about to open. It is expected to effectively alleviate the long-standing traffic bottleneck connecting Tamsui, and improve the transportation network in New Taipei and Taipei.
The Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, held the "Gratitude and Beauty Night" Danjiang Bridge Opening Ceremony tonight, attended by President Lai Ching-te, Premier Cho Jung-tai, New Taipei Mayor Hou Yu-ih, Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Shih-kai, and Deputy Minister of the Interior Tung Chien-hung.
The Ministry of the Interior stated in a press release tonight that Deputy Minister Tung Chien-hung said in his speech that since the idea of constructing the Danjiang Bridge was proposed in 1990, it has been actively promoted for over 36 years. This major construction project, with a total cost of over NT$24.8 billion, after deducting over NT$1.3 billion for the light rail transit self-funded by the New Taipei City Government, the remaining amount was equally shared by the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, and the New Taipei City Government, each contributing over NT$7.8 billion.
Tung Chien-hung pointed out that the construction of the Danjiang Bridge was not easy. If it were not for the revision of the plan in 2018 to adjust the total cost from the original approximately NT$15.4 billion to approximately NT$21.2 billion, in conjunction with the design of the main bridge of the Danjiang Bridge and considering factors such as complex engineering technology and difficulty in obtaining construction machinery, and approved by then-Premier Lai Ching-te and the Legislative Yuan agreeing to allocate the budget, this project might not have been successfully tendered and commenced construction.
He also said that to implement President Lai's "Danjiang Science City" policy, the Ministry of the Interior has actively carried out relevant planning. In conjunction with the traffic advantages brought by the opening of the Danjiang Bridge, it will continue to promote the development of the Danhai New Town and introduce high-tech and innovative industries, combining them with local living functions.
With the Danjiang Bridge about to open, Tung Chien-hung stated that it is expected to effectively alleviate the long-standing traffic bottleneck in the Tamsui area and further improve the transportation network in New Taipei and Taipei.
The Ministry of the Interior further pointed out that the Danjiang Bridge effectively connects Danhai New Town and Science City with "dual ports" such as Taipei Port and Taoyuan Airport, significantly shortening travel time. It also improves the transportation network for living circles such as Tamsui, Bali, Wugu, and Linkou, which will enhance the efficiency of daily commuting and industrial logistics, and is a key construction for promoting Tamsui's overall transformation and industrial development.
