(Central News Agency reporter Chang Yi-lien, Kaohsiung, 9th) Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai today honored 40 "Beautiful Mothers." Among them, 98-year-old Chan Mo Hui-chun, who has shouldered family responsibilities and bravely fought cancer to protect her family since arriving in Taiwan in 1949; and Chen Ai-yue, a new resident from Vietnam, who treats her non-biological granddaughter as her own, received the "New Power Mother" award.
The Kaohsiung City Government and the Kaohsiung City Christian Blessed Church jointly held the "Beautiful Mothers Award Ceremony." Chen Chi-mai honored 40 "Beautiful Mothers" who have shown resilience and tenderness in their lives, extending his deepest respect to every mother who protects her family with love and overcomes challenges, and thanking all "Beautiful Mothers" who support their families with love and overcome life's challenges.
Chan Mo Hui-chun, who received the "Perseverance Mother" award, came to Taiwan in 1949. With strong will, she passed the highly competitive police radio announcer exam, served society through broadcasting for many years, and participated in public welfare dramas and military comfort activities, dedicating her life to others.
Chan Mo Hui-chun was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 40, but she never bowed to fate, bravely overcoming illness and regaining a new life. Now at 98 years old, she still faces life with a cheerful smile, frequently thanking those around her when receiving the award, showing tenderness and resilience. Her family told a Central News Agency reporter, "Mother has worked very hard all her life, and we are very happy that she received the award."
In addition, five foreign mothers received awards this time. Among them, 61-year-old Chen Ai-yue from Vietnam has been in Taiwan for 18 years. She initially worked as a home caregiver in Taiwan for three years, then met her husband and married into Taiwan. Her husband already had two children, and even though they had no children together, she wholeheartedly cared for the non-biological children.
Chen Ai-yue said that she later worked in the Siaogang District for 10 years, then resigned after her father-in-law was diagnosed with cancer to fully care for her father-in-law and her mother-in-law with dementia. After her husband's children had their own children, she continued to care for her non-biological granddaughter, from one month old until the granddaughter is now in the third grade of elementary school.
Even though Chen Ai-yue deeply misses her birth mother in Vietnam, she chose to protect her family with love, caring for three generations with her own hands, and actively sharing traditional Vietnamese dances and cuisine in schools. She received the "New Power Mother" award this time.
The Kaohsiung Social Affairs Bureau added that the stories of the 40 "Beautiful Mothers" prove that maternal love is not limited to women or blood ties. Among them, Gao Bing-ren, who received the "Magic Mother" award, is a "father acting as mother," solely bearing the burden of caring for a child with a rare disease and his family; and Ms. Chang Lan-ying, who has been involved in foster care services for 16 years, has cared for 13 traumatized foster children across blood ties, lighting up hope for children and adolescents with great love.
