(Central News Agency reporter Chang Yi-liang, Kaohsiung, 9th) Lender Wang and others were involved in allegedly luring, kidnapping, and torturing lender Lin and his family. After Mr. Lin paid the ransom, the entire family was released. Wang and two others were arrested, with one person still at large. After trial by the Kaohsiung District Court, Wang and the two others were sentenced to 12 years and 10 years and 6 months in prison, respectively.
The Kaohsiung District Court judgment stated that Wang and the fugitive accomplice Jiang held the primary positions, instructing Zhou and E to monitor the victims' daily routines, arrange the detention location, and investigate the kidnapping route.
The judgment pointed out that Jiang and others subsequently used inhumane methods such as handcuffs and shackles to restrain the victims' limbs, placed them entirely in large plastic barrels, and then transported them in the trunk of a car. The criminal methods were brutal, and the nature and circumstances of the crime were serious.
The judge considered Wang and others' attitude after the crime and their motives, as well as the fact that no settlement or compensation was reached with the victims. Wang was sentenced to 12 years, and Zhou and E were sentenced to 10 years and 6 months each for kidnapping for ransom and robbery-kidnapping for ransom. The verdict can be appealed.
The entire case originated from 37-year-old Wang owing approximately NT$20 million, and Jiang owing Wang NT$9.9 million and being unable to repay it. The two conspired to kidnap lender Lin. Last year, they enlisted 27-year-old Zhou and 19-year-old E to plan the kidnapping.
Lin's son and wife were successively lured and kidnapped. The two were bound and placed in large plastic barrels, and a ransom of NT$100 million was demanded. Subsequently, Lin was also lured and kidnapped, and the family of three was abused and imprisoned with blindfolds, handcuffs, and electric shocks.
It was not until Lin successively collected loans from friends and took cash from a safe at his residence, totaling NT$11.4 million, that the family of three was released. Jiang later concealed that he had obtained the ransom and then flew to Vietnam, and his whereabouts and the ransom are still unknown.
Wang and others were successively arrested in Kaohsiung City and Taitung County. After the investigation by the Kaohsiung District Prosecutors Office, Wang and the two others were indicted on charges including kidnapping for ransom. (Edited by Wu Su-jou) 1150509
