(Central News Agency Reporter Tsai Chih-ming, Yunlin County, May 9) Former legislator and former Beigang Chaotian Temple chairperson Tseng Tsai Mei-tso was assaulted and injured at her home on the morning of the 7th. The Yunlin District Prosecutor's Office is actively investigating the case, having apprehended 21 suspects. Among them, Tsai Chin-tsai, son of Yunlin County Deputy Speaker Tsai Yong-de, was sought for detention by prosecutors today.

The Yunlin District Prosecutor's Office issued a press release today stating that on the evening of the 7th, eight defendants were apprehended. Prosecutors determined that three individuals – a 21-year-old male Chen, a 31-year-old male Tsai, and an 18-year-old male Tsai – were suspected of offenses such as disturbing public order and assault under the Criminal Code, and there was a risk of destruction of evidence and collusion. Therefore, they applied to the court for their detention. The court ordered the detention of Chen, while the two Tsai family defendants were released on bail of NT$60,000 each; the remaining five were released on bail of NT$50,000 each.

Through continuous investigation by the special task force, nine more suspects were apprehended on the 8th. Applications for detention were filed against four of them: a 19-year-old male Su, a 32-year-old male Tsai, a 35-year-old male Kao, and a 35-year-old male Chen. In the early hours of today, the court ordered the detention and prohibition of visits for Su and Tsai. Kao was released on bail of NT$30,000, while Chen was released as there were no grounds for detention; the remaining five defendants were released on bail of NT$50,000 each.

Prosecutors stated that today, four more suspects were apprehended, including Tsai Chin-tsai (22 years old, son of Tsai Yong-de), a 33-year-old male Chiu, a 26-year-old male Chen, and a 32-year-old male Chen. Applications for detention were filed against Tsai Chin-tsai and Chiu, while the two Chen family defendants were released on bail of NT$50,000 each.

Regarding his son being sought for detention, Tsai Yong-de stated that the case has entered judicial proceedings and he is unwilling to comment further. He previously indicated that on the night of the incident, Beigang Mazu was still on pilgrimage, and the pilgrimage proceeded according to the "Lu Guan" (itinerary). When the sedan chair passed near the incident site, some people blocked it and demanded a change of direction, which he believes was the cause of the incident. Tsai Yong-de is currently also the chairperson of Beigang Chaotian Temple.

Prosecutors said that after the assault incident, Yunlin District Prosecutor General Lin Hsiu-min immediately assigned Prosecutor Peng Yen-ju to lead a special task force comprising the Yunlin County Police Department Criminal Investigation Division, Beigang Precinct, and the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Ministry of the Interior, to fully investigate the case and promptly ascertain the facts and bring the involved defendants to justice.
