Central News Agency (CNA) — (Taipei, May 9, Reporter Su Chih-yeh) In American minor league baseball today, two Taiwanese-American mixed-race prospects competed in the same game. Stuart Fairchild of the Cleveland Guardians Triple-A team hit his fourth home run of the season, while Jonathon Long of the Chicago Cubs Triple-A team had a three-hit game. The Cubs ultimately defeated the Guardians Triple-A team 13-12. In the top of the first inning, Fairchild, the leadoff hitter and center fielder for the Guardians, launched a solo home run to start their offensive. Juan Brito, the next batter, added another home run, giving them 2 runs in the first inning. In the second inning, after Fairchild walked to load the bases, Brito hit a grand slam, extending their lead to 6-0. However, in the bottom of the second inning, Long, batting fifth and playing first base for the Cubs, led off with a single, sparking their offense. They scored 2 runs in that inning. In the bottom of the third, Long hit another single. In the bottom of the fourth inning, with two outs and the bases loaded, Long drew a walk to force in a run, extending their rally into a 6-run comeback inning, which included Owen Miller's three-run homer. In the bottom of the fifth, the Cubs scored 3 more runs, with Long contributing an RBI single. Long flew out in the bottom of the seventh inning, finishing 3-for-4 with a walk, 2 RBIs, and 2 runs scored. His batting average after the game was .299. Fairchild went 2-for-4 with his first-inning home run and a single in the fourth inning. He also had a walk and was hit by a pitch, contributing 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
