(Central News Agency Reporter Huang Chiao-wen, Taipei, May 9 News) The Danjiang Bridge project has 6 highlights, including international competition design, blending the estuary and dancers. Minister of Transportation Chen Shih-kai said its charm lies not only in setting world records in engineering technology, but also in how it truly resembles a dancing performer when architecture, music, dance, and the Tamsui River estuary converge.

The Danjiang Bridge, connecting Tamsui and Bali, has a main bridge length of approximately 920 meters and a main span of 450 meters, making it the world's longest span single-tower asymmetric cable-stayed bridge. It is the first bridge project in Taiwan designed through an international competition, with the internationally renowned architect Zaha Hadid Architects at the helm.

The main bridge section of the Danjiang Bridge project underwent 7 unsuccessful bids before being awarded in 2018 to Gongsin Engineering, with construction starting in February 2019. The Danjiang Bridge and its connecting roads construction plan underwent two revisions, with the budget increasing from an initial NT$15.43 billion to NT$23.038 billion. It will officially open to traffic at 11:30 AM on the 12th.

The Ministry of Transportation and Communications' Directorate General of Highways will host the "Gratitude and Beauty Night" opening ceremony gala tonight. Minister Chen Shih-kai shared on Facebook that the proposal name during the international competition for the Danjiang Bridge was "Dancer in the Night's Tranquility," with the design inspiration coming from the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre, symbolizing Taiwanese culture. From a low angle, the main tower resembles a pair of clasped hands guarding the Tamsui River estuary, with the cable-stayed steel cables extending in all directions, like a dancer stretching in the night.

Chen Shih-kai revealed that he went to the rehearsal site of the Gratitude Night last night to pay respects to the hardworking engineering team and staff, and witnessed the Cloud Gate dancers moving on the wet bridge surface with the light and shadow, "That moment was very touching."

Chen Shih-kai believes that the captivating aspect of the Danjiang Bridge is not just its world-record engineering technology, but more so how it truly resembles a dancing performer when architecture, music, dance, and the Tamsui River estuary converge.

"Tonight is the gratitude night for the Danjiang Bridge engineering team." Chen Shih-kai expressed his thanks to everyone who brought this bridge step by step to this day, and hoped for safe and smooth weather tonight; he also invited the public to come to the site to experience the most beautiful night of the Danjiang Bridge.

According to the Directorate General of Highways, the Danjiang Bridge project has 6 major highlights: the main bridge tower is 211 meters high with a complex 3D curved surface design; it was designed through an international competition, blending the estuary and dancers; it can maintain passage during a magnitude 7 earthquake, equipped with multiple seismic isolation and damping facilities such as HFR (Hydraulic Fluid Viscous Damper); landscape lighting columns are arranged along the bridge deck, gradually changing angles towards the main bridge tower to present the dynamic posture of a dancer; and it has a service life of 120 years.

Highlights also include the Danjiang Bridge's compatibility with green transportation and human-centered transportation, in addition to a 5-meter-wide bicycle and pedestrian path, with physical separation of car and motorcycle lanes, and reserved light rail corridors for the future, currently planned as dedicated bus lanes.
