(Central News Agency reporter Huang Hsu-sheng, New Taipei, 9th) The opening ceremony gala for the Danjiang Bridge took place tonight, with Cloud Gate Dance Theatre presenting its new work "Light Link," specially created for the Danjiang Bridge. Dancers performed amidst the main bridge tower and intertwined light and laser projections, symbolizing the fusion of technology and art, and lighting up the night sky for Taiwan's new national gateway landmark.
The "Gratitude and Beautiful Night" opening ceremony gala for the Danjiang Bridge was attended by President Lai Ching-te, Premier Cho Jung-tai, Minister of Transportation and Communications Chen Shih-kai, New Taipei City Mayor Hou Yu-ih, and several elected representatives. President Lai stated in his speech that the Danjiang Bridge is an important achievement of central and local government cooperation, thanking the engineering team for their long-term dedication, and that it will become Taiwan's pride in the future.
In addition to enjoying the Cloud Gate Dance Theatre performance, President Lai stood on stage with distinguished guests and lit up the night view with their mobile phones alongside the public.
The main span of the Danjiang Bridge is approximately 920 meters, with a main span of 450 meters, making it the world's longest single-tower asymmetrical cable-stayed bridge, designed by the late international architect Zaha Hadid's firm.
When Zaha Hadid's firm designed the bridge, they drew inspiration from the fluid movements of Cloud Gate dancers. Tonight, Cloud Gate Dance Theatre also brought its brand new dance work "Light Link," choreographed by Artistic Director Cheng Tsung-lung, with "connection" as its theme, symbolizing the Danjiang Bridge's connection between Tamsui and Bali, as well as the geographical and emotional links between Datun Mountain and Guanyin Mountain.
During the performance, dancers showcased their movements under the bridge tower's light sculpture and laser projections. Purple and red light beams intertwined and changed, forming flowing light trails, echoing the imagery of Taiwan's technology industry and information transmission, presenting a scene where people and bridge become one, receiving warm applause from the audience.
The gala also paid tribute to the teams involved in the planning, design, supervision, and construction of the Danjiang Bridge, including representatives from Sinotech Engineering, RSEA Engineering, and Zaha Hadid Architects, who came on stage to receive commendations. The public applauded to thank the engineers for their long-term contributions. (Edited by Lee Hsi-chang) 1150509
