(Central News Agency, Pattaya, 9th, comprehensive foreign report) Thailand has apprehended a 31-year-old Chinese national in Sattahip, near Pattaya, for possessing a large quantity of military-grade weapons, ammunition, grenades, landmines, bomb vests, and high-powered explosives. Due to national security risks, the Royal Thai Police Commissioner General has ordered a thorough investigation.

The Pattaya News reported that the suspect, Mingchen Sun (transliteration), was initially detained for involvement in a vehicle rollover accident in the Na Jomtien area. Police found a pistol and multiple magazines in his car, leading to a search of his rented residence in a Huay Yai alley.

During the operation, authorities seized a large number of military-grade weapons, including explosives such as grenades, bulletproof vests, landmines, booby traps, and bomb vests. This operation received high-level attention, with Chonburi Provincial Police Chief Pongphan Wongmanithet personally overseeing the investigation last night.

Pongphan stated in an interview that Royal Thai Police Commissioner General Kittirat Phanphet has instructed a comprehensive investigation into this case, especially regarding its implications for national and public security.

He said, "We are investigating every aspect, including national security concerns." To avoid affecting the investigation, details about the explosives and the suspect's possible motives are not being released to the public for now. Police are tracing the source of the weapons and explosives and have not yet found any connection to specific planned attacks.

Sun had been renting the house for about two years at a monthly rent of 38,000 Thai Baht. Records show he first entered Thailand in 2020 on a tourist visa and has entered and exited multiple times since. He holds a 5-year Elite Visa, and his most recent entry was on January 27th this year.

Sun holds Chinese, Cambodian, and Dominican passports, as well as a pink official identification card issued to non-Thai long-term residents, with his household registration in the Khlong Sam Wa area of Bangkok. He reportedly also possesses a Thai national identification number and previously lived in Chiang Mai. Police are still verifying the details of his documents and how they were obtained.

Items seized from Sun's car by the police include: 1 Glock 26 pistol, 2 Glock 26 magazines, 10 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 1 M16 magazine, 28 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, and 1 other magazine.

Additional items found at his residence include: 2 M16 assault rifles, 9 M16 magazines, 763 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, approximately 4832.4 grams of C4 plastic explosives, 4 Russian POMZ-2 landmines, 4 BA/WA grenades, 1 Korean K75 grenade, 1 Myanmar M6/01 grenade, 7 electric detonators, 3 PONZ-2 landmine fuses, 2 POMZ-2 safety pins, 2 remote control transmitter/receiver sets, 3 bulletproof vests, 2 gas masks, 6 gas mask filters, and 4 20-liter flat jerry cans of gasoline.

Neighbors described Sun as friendly and polite, often greeting people warmly. An unnamed resident expressed deep shock upon hearing about the C4 and other explosives hidden in the residential area, stating that an explosion could endanger all residents. (Translator: Ho Hung-ju) 1150509
